The gendarmerie has exposed the scammers' new scheme. A 12-person gang, alleged to have committed fraud by setting up a fake website under the name PTT-HGS and sending messages claiming 'you have an HGS debt,' has been dismantled. 900 million liras in accounts have been frozen.
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated the following in a post on his social media account:
"In our operations conducted in 6 provinces centered in Istanbul targeting the crime of 'Qualified Fraud Using Information Systems,' we apprehended 12 suspects with 900 million TL in account transactions; 10 of them have been arrested. Proceedings for the others are ongoing. Under the coordination of our Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, our National Intelligence Organization (MİT), MASAK, and our Gendarmerie Cybercrime Combat Department; as a result of the work carried out by the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Cybercrime Combat Branch; it was determined that the suspects caught in our operations held in Istanbul, İzmir, Van, Elazığ, Bingöl, and Hakkari used the name and logo of PTT and the Rapid Transit System (HGS) to create fake websites and interfaces, sent misleading SMS messages such as 'you have an HGS debt, you have an undelivered cargo,' and defrauded our citizens by directing them to fake websites, and investigations have been initiated against them by our prosecutor's offices. During the operations, within the scope of the crime of laundering assets derived from crime, 200 bank accounts and 30 crypto accounts belonging to the suspects were seized."
