Hikmet Çetin meets with Selahattin Demirtaş: 'Öcalan's call will be accepted'

İsmail Küçükkaya recounted the meeting between former CHP Chairman Hikmet Çetin and Selahattin Demirtaş on the program "Yeni Bir Sabah" (A New Morning) broadcast on Halk TV.

Küçükkaya reported that Çetin asked Demirtaş the question, "Will they listen to Öcalan?" According to Küçükkaya, Demirtaş stated that Öcalan's call would be accepted and that the process would be completed by June.

Küçükkaya used the following expressions:

"I called Hikmet Çetin last night. He is an experienced statesman. He said, 'My brother İsmail Bey.' I said, 'Mr. Chairman, I heard you went to the prison.' He said, 'Yes.' I asked, 'Who did you see?' He said, 'I made eight visits. First, I saw your general manager Suat Toktaş. Then, I saw the Gezi Park detainees, primarily Osman Kavala; I received their permissions, sent my list on time, and visited them with the special permission of the Ministry of Justice.'"

"Then I also went to Edirne," he said. I asked, "To Demirtaş?" He said, "Yes."

Hikmet Çetin asked Demirtaş: "What do you say, Selahattin Bey, will they listen to Öcalan?"

Demirtaş said: "They will listen, they will listen. They will listen to Öcalan." Look, a call is expected from Öcalan, who founded the PKK terrorist organization; this is certain. He will tell the PKK terrorist organization, "We are laying down our arms"; this is also certain. What we do not know is whether the call will be effective. The answer Selahattin Demirtaş gave to Hikmet Çetin on Friday is, "They will listen."
