Former Halkbank Deputy General Manager and former Borsa Istanbul General Manager Hakan Atilla announced on May 1 that his passport had been seized while he was attempting to travel abroad.

The reason for the seizure of Atilla's passport had not been communicated to him.

Hakan Atilla had filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Interior's General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs with a request for a stay of execution.

The case, which was being heard at the Istanbul 5th Administrative Court, was transferred to the Ankara 7th Administrative Court on October 17.

According to a report by Ersin Eroğlu from 10Haber, Hakan Atilla won the lawsuit he filed and received his passport back. The court found Hakan Atilla's request justified and ruled in his favor. The reason for the seizure of Hakan Atilla's passport has still not been communicated to him.

Former Halkbank Deputy General Manager Hakan Atilla, who was tried and held in custody for 28 months in the US on charges of playing a role in the process of circumventing sanctions against Iran, and who returned to Turkey after completing his sentence, announced on May 1 that his passport had been seized while he was trying to travel to Cyprus.

Atilla, who resigned from his position as General Manager of Borsa Istanbul on March 8, 2021, said in a post on his Instagram account, "While trying to go to Cyprus with your family, they want to seize your passport at the airport, and I am being taken to the police station to be served with an exit ban."

In another post, Hakan Atilla stated, "We served our country for years, we held it in high regard, defended and protected it; the treatment we receive in return is being detained at airports. The axe turns, the handle turns, one day the account will turn."
