Historian Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör detained

Academic Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör has been detained as part of an investigation launched against her on charges of "insulting the President" and "insulting a public official due to their duty."

The Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into Ör's social media post.

Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör was detained by teams from the Security Branch Directorate as part of the investigation launched on charges of "insulting the President" and "insulting a public official due to their duty."

Ör was taken to the police station for processing.

CHP İstanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made a post on his social media account regarding the detention of Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör.

Çelik used the following expressions in his post:

"Television programmer and academic Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör has been detained, with a social media post cited as the reason.

I spoke with Ör's husband; she is being taken to the Vatan Police Headquarters. We are following the process closely with our lawyers and legal commission.

We will continue to maintain solidarity against the regime of oppression that is being attempted to be established."
