HKP files criminal complaint against those responsible for taking students to mosques under ÇEDES
The HKP has filed a criminal complaint against the officials responsible for taking children to a mosque in Istanbul's Çekmeköy district as part of the ÇEDES project.
While reactions against the Ministry of National Education's ÇEDES project continue, students are still being taken to mosques for morning prayers. The Istanbul Çekmeköy District Directorate of National Education took children to a mosque as part of the ÇEDES project. After the prayer, the AKP-run Çekmeköy Municipality distributed soup to the children.
CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FROM HKP
Lawyers for the People's Liberation Party (HKP) have filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Istanbul Provincial Director of National Education Murat Mücahit Yentür, Çekmeköy District Director of National Education Mustafa Akhan, Çekmeköy Mayor Ahmet Poyraz, and school principals.
In the petition submitted to the chief prosecutor's office by HKP lawyers, it was alleged that the individuals named committed the crimes of "preventing the exercise of freedom of belief, thought, and opinion," "misuse of religious services during duty," "misconduct in office," "unauthorized assumption of public duty," and "violation of the Constitution."
"WE WILL ALWAYS CONTINUE TO DEFEND THE PRINCIPLE OF SECULARISM"
Making a statement regarding the criminal complaint, HKP lawyer Pınar Akbina Karaman said, "Our principle of secularism, which is the foundation of democracy, science, and freedom, is unfortunately being distorted day by day in the 100th year of our secular republic. The biggest blow in this regard is being dealt to our education system. Within the scope of the ÇEDES project, which has begun to be implemented in schools at almost every level, our children are being taken to mosques, and religious figures are personally coming to schools to impose US-style Islam, CIA-style Islam, and Muawiyah-Yazid-style Islam on our children. The People's Liberation Party will always continue to defend the principle of secularism."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Within the scope of the Ministry of National Education's (MEB) "I Am Sensitive to My Environment, I Protect My Values Project" (ÇEDES), primary, middle, and high school students in Çekmeköy had been taken to Friday prayers.
