Holiday traffic shakes Istanbul! Congestion exceeds 70 percent
The fact that bridges and highways were made toll-free for the Ramadan Feast caused congestion in Istanbul. As of 3:00 PM, traffic density reached 71 percent.
Due to the Ramadan Feast, the decision to make bridges, highways, and public transportation vehicles free of charge in Istanbul led to traffic and passenger congestion in certain parts of the city. As of 3:00 PM, traffic density was recorded at the 71 percent level.
Two-way congestion in the Hadımköy area of the D-100 highway and the Bahçeşehir area of the TEM Highway on the European Side caused traffic to slow down. In transitions from Europe to Anatolia, traffic moved slowly from the TEM Highway Mahmutbey toll booths in the direction of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge; on the D-100 highway, congestion was observed from Bakırköy to the entrance of the 15 July Martyrs Bridge.
Traffic congestion was also experienced around the Bosphorus and along the coastline, with vehicles moving slowly on the route extending from Sarayburnu to Eyüpsultan. According to data from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Cep Trafik (Mobile Traffic) Application, traffic density was measured at 71 percent around 3:00 PM in the afternoon.
