Horrific incident in Istanbul! 15 victimized students subjected to sexual abuse for years

Yektacan Ç. was working as a Turkish language teacher and assistant principal at a school in 2016. At the same time, he was providing education at a private tutoring center. It is alleged that from 2016, when he was teaching, until 2024, he abused 15 of his students. The teacher did not leave them alone even after the students graduated and continued his abuse for years.

MESSAGES FROM THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL SURFACED

A child named Ç.U. began communicating with Yektacan, who was serving as the principal at the school where the child was enrolled. During the time Ç.U. was a student, her relationship with the principal had drawn the attention of all the teachers. Even after graduating, the child did not sever her ties with the school and the principal, and continued to visit the school constantly. The victimized child's family became suspicious of the situation. They examined their child's phone. They saw messages between the school principal and Ç.U. with content inappropriate for a student-teacher relationship. They shared the situation with the teachers at the school.

TERRIFYING TRUTH REVEALED IN TESTIMONIES

The teachers reported the situation to the Ministry of National Education. An investigation was launched by the prosecutor's office. When the school principal's phone was examined, the terrifying truth was revealed. Obscene correspondence was detected between Yektacan Ç. and dozens of his students, both those currently enrolled and those who had graduated. It was determined that he continued his abuse by calling, messaging, and meeting with 15 of his students, including those from the period when he was teaching, outside of working hours. An investigation into the incident was launched. The prosecutor's office took the statements of the 15 children who were allegedly victimized by Yektacan. The scale of the horror experienced, as revealed in the children's statements, was chilling.

THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL'S WIFE ALSO WITNESSED THE ABUSE

A child who met Yektacan while taking courses at the age of 15 and later attended the school where he was an assistant principal described the abuse in her statement. She alleged that in 2019, when she went to visit the assistant principal at the school, he took her to the school's basement and sexually assaulted her. Another student stated that she went both to the school and to the assistant principal's home, and that they were caught by Yektacan's wife while they were having sexual intercourse. It was determined that he sent messages to another 13-year-old student, forcing her to have a relationship with him and trying to persuade her. It was also alleged that Yektacan Ç. committed similar abuse against a friend and the sibling of one of his students, and that he made children watch sexually explicit videos while he was teaching at a private tutoring center.

ABUSIVE PRINCIPAL ARRESTED

Within the scope of the investigation launched, Yektacan Ç. was arrested on March 14, 2024, and sent to prison. The investigation conducted against him has been completed. An indictment was prepared against Yektacan Ç. In the indictment accepted by the Istanbul High Criminal Court, it was stated that during his tenure as school principal and assistant principal, he manipulated 15 students under the age of 18 and their relatives, who were easily influenceable during their adolescent years—a period of change and development—causing them to experience gender confusion; that he used the sacred profession of teaching to buy gifts for his students; that he made them feel special during cultural and artistic activities; and that he engaged in sexual conversations that would confuse the mental worlds of the victimized children.

UP TO 300 YEARS IN PRISON SOUGHT

The indictment further stated that he brought the children under his psychological influence by making them 'promise obedience' to get them to do what he wanted in a sexual sense; that he used his professional pedagogical training to make them watch selected films and series to create feelings of homosexuality; and that after his arrest, his wife and lawyers directed the victims to change their statements to put pressure on them. It was stated that Yektacan Ç. committed the crime of 'qualified sexual abuse of a child by an educator and instructor in a chain manner' against 15 children. School principal Yektacan Ç., for whom a prison sentence of up to approximately 300 years is sought, is being tried in the High Criminal Court.
