Horror in a religious dormitory: 15-year-old child locked in a cold storage room and beaten

A violent incident at a male student dormitory in Kayseri, reportedly affiliated with the Süleymancılar community, has come to light after being brought to the judiciary. The allegation that a 15-year-old student was locked in a cold storage room at the dormitory and beaten has been confirmed by indictments prepared by the prosecutor's office.

While the memory of the 2016 fire at a religious dormitory in the Aladağ district of Adana, which claimed the lives of 12 people, 11 of whom were children, remains fresh, it has been determined that another scandal within a similar structure has occurred at a dormitory in Kayseri.

HELD IN A COLD STORAGE ROOM, SUBJECTED TO BEATING AND THREATS

According to information reported by İsmail Arı from BirGün, a 15-year-old ninth-grade student was locked in a cold storage room in June 2024 by a group consisting of some students and adults staying at the dormitory. The student, who was held there for a while, was subsequently beaten, subjected to insults, and choked. A portion of the violence was also captured on video.

THREATENED: "IF YOU SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FAMILY, WE WILL THROW YOU DOWN"

Following the emergence of the incident, the father filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office, stating that his child had said he was being harassed for a long time, but the dormitory management did not initiate any disciplinary process.

The father stated that he became aware of the situation through a video sent to him and recounted his conversation with his son as follows:

It was stated that the child said he was threatened with, "If you tell your family about this, we will throw you from the third floor and say you fell," and that he was subjected to torture, threats, and humiliation throughout the year. It was also noted that the child's mental health deteriorated due to the events, he withdrew from school, and could not continue his education.

According to the father's statement, during the meeting with the dormitory management, suggestions were made to cover up the incident. It was stated that the management used expressions suggesting that if the matter were escalated, the child could be harmed and his future could be jeopardized.

TWO SEPARATE INDICTMENTS PREPARED

The Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared two separate indictments regarding the incident. In the first indictment, a sentence was requested for 23-year-old Fatih E. for the crimes of "depriving a child of liberty by force, torture, and insult via audio, written, or video message."

The indictment stated that Fatih E. did not accept the accusations, claimed he did not know the victim, and denied the images in the video. It was reported that in his defense, he stated, "they might have been joking among friends." However, it was emphasized that there was sufficient evidence to open a public lawsuit in line with the existing evidence.

In the second indictment prepared, a sentence was requested for a minor student named B.Ö. for the crime of "depriving a person of liberty using force, threats, or deception." It was alleged that B.Ö. was the person who locked the victimized child in the cold storage room.

NO INVESTIGATION INTO THE DORMITORY MANAGER

During the investigation phase, only the statement of the Dormitory Manager, Muhammet Enes P., who is alleged to be a member of the community, was taken. In his statement, the manager said, "I was not aware of the incident."

The prosecutor's office ruled for non-prosecution regarding Enes P. due to "insufficient evidence." It was reported that the identity of a person named Kenan Y., who was mentioned during the incident, could not be determined, and therefore his statement could not be taken.
