House arrest lifted for Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu's mother in Kubilay Kundakçı murder case: İzzet Yıldızhan claims 'I am the victim'

The incident occurred on the night of March 19 on Sıddık Street in the Ümraniye district. Allegedly, musician Vahap Canbay wanted to reconcile with singer Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu, from whom he had separated some time ago. Canbay asked for help from his friend Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı (21), with whom he was on good terms. Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı went to the front of the studio where Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu was located, accompanied by Vahap Canbay and their friends.

While the group was waiting in the vehicle, suspects who allegedly arrived at the scene in luxury vehicles with flashing lights carried out an attack. Kundakçı, who was targeted by the bullets and seriously injured, lost his life despite all interventions at the hospital where he was taken. Following the incident, 7 people, including Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu, Alaatin Kadayıfçıoğlu, and İzzet Yıldızhan, were arrested. In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 10 individuals were named as defendants.

The hearing, which was to be held at the Istanbul Anatolian Courthouse 27th High Criminal Court, took place in the Martyr Hakan Kılıç Conference Hall due to overcrowding. Detained defendants Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu, Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu, Hüseyin Can Avci, Mustafa Rece, Metin Kadayıfçıoğlu, Ahmet Özkoç, and non-detained defendants Zuhal Kalaycıoğlu and Bilal Kadayıfçıoğlu were present in the courtroom, along with the lawyers for the parties and Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı's father, Cemil Kundakçı, and mother, Ülker Kundakçı. Non-detained defendant İzzet Yıldızhan attended the hearing via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).

"We waited there for 1 or 2 hours"

Testifying as a witness, Vahap Canbay said, "I had an uncertain, open-ended breakup conversation with Aleyna. There was a message she sent to my sister-in-law, and I went to see her because she had also messaged my sister-in-law. Kubilay was staying with us that night. As we stated in our testimonies, he said, 'Let's go.' There was talk like, 'It's the eve of the holiday, let's go and we will have reconciled.' Kubilay and Yalçın were already going. I said, 'Then I'll come too.' Yalçın was also with us on the day of the incident. When we first arrived, the cleaner opened the door and said, 'I'm cleaning, I can't let anyone in.' We waited, thinking the woman couldn't clean where men were present. We waited there for 1 or 2 hours. The dog in the studio is mine, a dog Aleyna loved very much. I had given it to her because she loved it. While we were waiting at the door, a black vehicle pulled up; we only saw its flashing lights. Someone got out of the vehicle and knocked on the window; I opened the door. He said, 'I won't see you around this girl again.' I raised my left arm toward Kubilay and took a fetal position. My right leg or hand might have touched Alaattin's arm. I might have had contact with the person's arm. I might have touched him when I closed up to protect ourselves," he said.

"I took him in my arms and screamed for help"

Canbay stated, "No one said anything at the moment of the incident; I just shouted, 'Don't.' I didn't realize anyone had been shot. When Kubilay cried out, I ran to his side. I took him in my arms and screamed for help. The conversations had taken place on the afternoon of the day of the incident. Our cleaner called me and said that Aleyna was in a relationship with Alaattin. I started crying. It was like a death; I said things like, 'I will kill myself,'" he said.

"I am the biggest victim in this incident"

Non-detained defendant İzzet Yıldızhan said, "I was in Ankara for the holiday on the day of the incident. Metin called me at night and said, 'Alaattin got into a fight, but I don't know what happened, he is coming to me.' After the phone call, I called Bilal, but his phone was off. I spoke with Bilal around 1 or 2 at night, then I went to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, my children told me there had been a murder and that Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu's name was mentioned. I called Metin and asked about the situation. He told me, 'I think this is the incident, I don't know either.' I am the biggest victim in this incident. My reputation has been dragged through the mud. The next day, Alaattin was caught. I spent 45 days in prison without knowing what happened. I am taking care of 9 children; I am the most victimized party. I want to be acquitted. The reason for my messages with Metin was a message we wrote so that they would inform me if they got information from the child," he said.

The court decided to lift the house arrest of mother Zuhal Kalaycıoğlu, to lift the signature obligations of the non-detained defendants under judicial control, to maintain the travel bans for the defendants, and to continue the detention of the detained defendants, adjourning the hearing to July 13.
