House arrest requested for IMM Deputy Secretary General Polat

Lawyers for IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat have filed a request for house arrest due to the medical conditions for which he is currently receiving treatment. Polat’s brother, Cevdet Polat, stated, "Mahir’s morale is high; he sends his best regards to everyone coming to Saraçhane."

According to a report by Deniz Güngör from Birgün, lawyers for Mahir Polat, who was arrested as part of the "urban consensus" file following an operation targeting the IMM, have requested house arrest due to his health issues. It was also learned that Polat had been scheduled for surgery to have a stent placed due to a blocked heart artery, but the procedure could not be performed following his arrest. It was also noted that Polat, who suffers from claustrophobia, is being held alone in a cell at the Silivri High-Security Prison.

Stating that Mahir Polat met with his wife and child yesterday, his brother Cevdet Polat said, "His morale is high. We had received information that those arrested were being kept in pairs, but they are all being held in solitary confinement."

Noting that Polat suffers from anxiety due to his claustrophobia, his brother added, "Mahir frequently experiences arterial blockages in his heart, which is why he has had 5-6 stents placed previously. He also underwent treatment for thyroid cancer, and his follow-ups are ongoing. Furthermore, he is a diabetic and has high blood pressure. For these reasons, we have submitted a request for house arrest to the prosecutor's office; we are trying to do everything in our power."

'HIS MORALE IS HIGH'

Stating that Mahir Polat’s morale is high, Cevdet Polat said the following:
“We sent his books and his bağlama. Mahir is grateful to everyone coming to Saraçhane and sends his best regards. He says he loves everyone very much. Mahir sent a message saying, ‘I worked very hard for them. I will continue from where I left off. Our heads are held high; we have committed no crime. We are honorable; we have not done anything to shame our people.’ He also told his own staff as he was leaving, ‘Work harder, serve Istanbul more.’ I believe everyone will continue the work he left behind as if Mahir were still here.”
