How Father's Day began to be celebrated. Things you are curious about regarding Father's Day
Father's Day is celebrated every year in June. The history of this meaningful day dates back to the American Civil War. Here are the things you are curious about regarding Father's Day.
It stands out as a special day celebrated in honor of fathers on the third Sunday of June every year.
Although it is celebrated on various dates around the world, many countries celebrate this day on the third Sunday of June.
HOW DID FATHER'S DAY EMERGE?
Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of an American Civil War veteran, thought that fathers should also have a day like Mother's Day. Dodd's father had raised his 6 children alone in the absence of their mother. She began efforts to have June 5, her father's birthday, declared Father's Day, but these efforts could not be completed by that date, and the celebrations were postponed to the third Sunday of June.
Father's Day was first celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington. In 1924, United States President Calvin Coolidge supported the celebrations but did not officially declare it Father's Day.
In 1966, the president of that period, Lyndon Johnson, issued a proclamation declaring that the third Sunday of June would be celebrated as Father's Day every year. In 1972, with the signature of President Richard Nixon, Father's Day was legally declared an official holiday in the USA.
