How İnan Güney resisted the police's 'single-file' practice! 'As I passed by my friends...'

As part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of corruption, CHP Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney was arrested and sent to prison.

Recounting his detention process and experiences in prison to Onlar TV, Güney stated that he objected to entering the single-file line before the police prepared to escort them out of the police station in that formation. Güney described the moments he was taken out alone after the police did not force his friends into the line as follows:

“As I passed by my friends, I apologized and told them that I felt compelled to resist this line.”

İnan Güney's notes are as follows:

“Our friends who were detained were being lined up outside; preparations were being made for that infamous image that does not befit a democratic state of law and human dignity.

I told an officer there, whom I assumed to be in charge, ‘I will absolutely not enter this line.’ The officer replied, ‘The order is as such, you are required to enter.’ I told him that I would absolutely not enter the line, that they could remove me by force if necessary, but that I would resist the line. After the officer made some calls, he took me away from my friends and did not take me out alone. As I passed by my friends, I apologized and told them that I felt compelled to resist this line.”
