Hulusi Akar finds 'boycott pastrami' too expensive: 'When I saw the price...'
In protest of the CHP's boycott call on April 2, AKP ministers went out shopping. During one of these shopping trips, former Defense Minister and AKP Kayseri deputy Hulusi Akar tasted some pastrami and remarked that he found the price expensive.

Akar's hesitation upon hearing the total at the checkout became a topic of discussion. Journalist Deniz Zeyrek reported that regarding the pastrami Akar tasted at the market, he said, "I bought a small amount when I saw the price."
Following the protests that began after the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, many brands were placed on a boycott list. Boycott calls were made across the entire country for Tuesday, April 2, 2025.
Following the boycott calls, ministers and AKP deputies went out for market shopping one after another, and calls were made for citizens to shop as well. Former Defense Minister and AKP Kayseri deputy Hulusi Akar also visited several businesses in Sariyer to counter the boycott.

Akar could not hide his surprise when his market bill totaled 2,381 TL. While those moments became a trending topic on social media, journalist Deniz Zeyrek shared details of his conversation with Akar. Stating that he asked Akar, "Did you buy the pastrami you tasted?", Zeyrek reported receiving the reply, "Yes, I did. I bought a small amount when I saw the price."
