Human smuggling operation... Hundreds of people detained
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that 43 human smuggling organizers were captured and deportation procedures were initiated for 1,298 irregular migrants during nationwide inspections conducted as part of the KALKAN-31 operations.
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared the number of human smuggling organizers and irregular migrants captured as part of the “KALKAN-31” operations on his social media account, stating the following:
"A total of 43 human smuggling organizers, 7 of whom are foreign nationals, and 1,298 irregular migrants were captured in the “KALKAN-31” operations held across the country. Under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices and our Presidency of Migration Management; identity checks were performed on 426,565 individuals in abandoned buildings, public entertainment venues, truck garages, terminals, ports, and public transport stops and stations as part of the efforts carried out by the General Directorate of Security, the Gendarmerie General Command, and the Coast Guard Command to combat migration and human smugglers. Deportation procedures for the identified irregular migrants have been initiated."
