Hüseyin Can, Mukhtar of Soma's Deniş Neighborhood, where a forest fire raged for 2 days, speaks to 12punto

A forest fire broke out in the Soma district of Manisa yesterday afternoon. Hüseyin Can, the Mukhtar of Deniş neighborhood in Soma where the fire started, made statements to 12punto. Stating that the forest fire has been brought under control, Can noted that cooling efforts are ongoing.

Soma Deniş Neighborhood Mukhtar Hüseyin Can said that there was no loss of life directly due to the fire, but that one person who was carrying water to help extinguish the fire lost their life when their tractor overturned.

Stating that the extent of the material damage caused by the fire has not yet been clarified, Hüseyin Can noted that damage assessment work is being carried out by the authorities.

TWO VILLAGES EVACUATED

Hüseyin Can concluded his remarks by stating that two villages were evacuated as a result of the fire:

''Two villages were evacuated due to the fire. In the village of Tekeli Işıklar, one of the evacuated villages, the roofs of 2 houses were damaged. In Bayat Village, olive groves and cemeteries in the plain were damaged due to the fire.''
