Hygiene crisis in schools grows: Major increase in diarrhea cases

In the new academic term, inadequate hygiene conditions in schools have led to the spread of illnesses such as throat infections and diarrhea among students.

Turkish Medical Association Family Medicine Branch (TTB-AHEK) Head Emrah Kırımlı drew attention to the lack of cleaning supplies and personnel in schools, stating that this situation is causing diseases to spread rapidly.

CLEANING CRISIS IN SCHOOLS

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, Kırımlı stated that hygiene problems in schools have reached serious levels.

Expressing that teachers sometimes have to do the cleaning themselves, Kırımlı stated that toilets have become a major problem, especially in schools in Istanbul. Emphasizing that cleanliness is a critical factor in the spread of diseases, Kırımlı added that some students are hesitant to go to school for this reason.

CRITICISM OF THE GOVERNMENT FROM EĞİTİM-İŞ UNION

Eğitim-İş Union President Kadem Özbay argued that unhygienic educational environments reveal the management problems in the country.

Özbay stated that adequate health screenings are not being conducted in schools and that this situation accelerates the spread of diseases. He also pointed out that the employment of permanent and secure cleaning staff is essential for a healthy educational environment.

TAX JUSTICE AND HEALTH INVESTMENTS

TTB-AHEK Head Emrah Kırımlı also touched upon demands for tax justice. Stating that collected taxes should be used for health and education services, Kırımlı said, "There can be no savings in health; hygiene conditions in schools, in particular, must be improved."
