Icelandic cold to take effect in Istanbul

The Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has warned citizens that a cold air wave originating from Iceland will be effective in Istanbul. According to forecasts, this cold air wave will show its effect in the northern and inner parts of Turkey as well as in Istanbul.

According to meteorological data, cloudy weather in Istanbul will give way to cold air and storms coming from Iceland. Temperatures are expected to drop to 5 degrees as of tonight, and to 0 degrees in some regions. This situation is expected to continue for the next 6-8 days.

AKOM stated that the wind will blow in the form of a storm from time to time (30-60 km/h) and intermittent precipitation will be effective. It was stated that the precipitation will generally be in the form of rain, but it may be seen as sleet and light snow in Arnavutköy, Eyüpsultan, and Sarıyer on the European Side, and in the high regions of the Anatolian Side. For this reason, it was emphasized that one should be careful against icing and frost events.

It was stated that citizens should be prepared for cold weather and possible snowfall, that duty personnel should be kept on standby outside of working hours, and that necessary precautions should be taken on the roads in line with the warnings from AKOM and BEUS.
