A new allegation that has shaken public opinion has emerged regarding Gökalp İçer, a controversial figure in the cryptocurrency world. According to the claim, İçer used drugs with a young female lawyer at his residence in Maslak, Istanbul. The young woman suffered a crisis throughout the night, was taken to the hospital, and was declared brain dead.
The incident was first brought to the public's attention by Sabah newspaper columnist Mahmut Övür. According to the report, Gökalp İçer invited a young female lawyer he met on social media to his home. The two used drugs at the house. It is stated that the drugs were obtained from a side street, and as the night progressed, the young woman became ill, suffered a crisis, and fainted. The woman, who was taken to the hospital by an ambulance called to the scene, was placed in intensive care. However, according to the information obtained, the woman has been declared brain dead.
"I USE IT OCCASIONALLY, I REGRET IT"
The statement Gökalp İçer gave after the incident caused a shock. It was learned that İçer said, "I also use drugs occasionally; I do not have any addiction. I am very sad and regretful that this incident happened."
The scandal did not end there. Among the allegations in the file are that İçer left his driver, who took the woman to the hospital, at the scene and returned to his home quickly, and then performed a "cleanup" before the police arrived. Despite all these developments, the fact that İçer was released and the incident was filed as "mutual drug use" has raised questions.
HE WAS ACCUSED OF TRYING TO SEIZE THE CUMHURİYET ARCHIVE
Gökalp İçer, the Chairman of the Board of the ICRYPEX Cryptocurrency Exchange, had previously come to the agenda with various controversies.
A criminal complaint was filed against İçer, a military academy graduate, in 2023 on the grounds that he tried to seize the 100-year-old archive of Cumhuriyet Newspaper by turning it into NFTs. Cumhuriyet Foundation Board Member Lawyer Turan Karakaş was dismissed from his duties as a lawyer following a conflict with some foundation members acting in concert with İçer while he was trying to protect the newspaper's unique archive.
AZERBAIJANI DIPLOMATS ALSO ACCUSED İÇER
İçer's name also came to the agenda with another scandal involving Azerbaijani diplomats, and this news was first shared with the public by 12punto. Farrukh Jumayev, Hasanali Hasanov, and Jeyhun Shahverdiyev, who serve in the Secretariat of the Organization of Turkic States, filed a criminal complaint against Gökalp İçer and Murat Şirinov, who appeared as an SGK-registered employee at the ICRYPEX company, over an allegation of a 350 thousand dollar fraud, and a travel ban was imposed on İçer.
As a result of the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a lawsuit was filed at the Istanbul 10th High Criminal Court with the file number 2023/376, and İçer began to be tried in this file with a prison sentence of up to 7.5 years on charges of "qualified fraud."
According to the allegations, the diplomats made their first complaint at the beginning of 2023, and the indictment was prepared in October of the same year. However, immediately after the case appeared in the media, the diplomats sent an email to members of the press announcing that they had withdrawn their complaints and dismissed their lawyers on the same day. This development brought questions of "was political pressure applied?" to the public agenda at that time.
EFFORTS TO IMPROVE IMAGE
Among the rumors is that Gökalp İçer sponsored high-viewership programs, such as those of journalist Fatih Altaylı, in order to improve his negative image in the public eye.
