Identity of citizen killed in earthquake revealed — turns out to be famous actor's uncle

The identity of the person who lost his life in the 6.1-magnitude earthquake centred in Sındırgı, Balıkesir has been confirmed. The person pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building in the Sındırgı district centre and who later died at the hospital where he was taken has been identified as Nihat Önbaş. The body of the late Önbaş, aged 81, was transferred to the morgue of Sındırgı State Hospital.

His wife, Hamdide Önbaş, was reported to have suffered a broken arm in the earthquake.

TURNED OUT TO BE A FAMOUS ACTOR'S UNCLE

Following the earthquake in Balıkesir, actor Eylül Tumbar had issued a call for help for her relatives trapped under the rubble:

"My relatives, Hamide Önbaş and Nihat Önbaş, are trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in the Balıkesir earthquake and waiting for help! I hope they get through it with as little harm as possible."

Shortly afterwards, Tumbar announced in a post that her uncle could not be saved.
