İlber Ortaylı's long-standing wish fulfilled
The final wish of the late Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı was fulfilled at the Üsküdar Çinili Mosque. Imam Dursun Şahin, whose voice had impressed Ortaylı years ago to the point that he told him, "If I die, you will recite my sela," honored that request during Ortaylı's final journey.
The long-standing wish of the renowned historian Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, who passed away recently, has come to light.
Ortaylı, who was moved by the sela recited by Dursun Şahin, the imam of the Üsküdar Çinili Mosque, after a Friday prayer, had wanted to meet him. When asked by Ortaylı, "You have a different style, who did you take lessons from?" Dursun Şahin replied that he had studied under Amir Ateş.
Upon this, Ortaylı left Şahin with the request, "If I die, you will recite my sela." This unforgettable memory, which emerged years later, brought emotional moments to the loved ones of both Ortaylı and Şahin.
Dursun Şahin, who fulfilled the wish of İlber Ortaylı, who passed away on March 13, recited the sela at a mosque in Germany.
