İlker Canikligil taken into custody
İlker Canikligil has been taken into custody following statements he made in a video published on his YouTube account.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into director İlker Canikligil due to his call for a mass massacre (Order 66) against a segment of society he referred to as the lower class in a video he published on YouTube, as well as a post on his X account stating, "My friends, do not try to explain things to these people in vain. Political Islam should be ignored and gradually eradicated. It has no side to be taken seriously. That is all." Canikligil was taken into custody by police teams under the instruction of the prosecutor's office on charges of 'publicly inciting to commit a crime' and 'publicly inciting the public to hatred and hostility.'
WHO IS İLKER CANİKLİGİL?
İlker Canikligil was born in Istanbul in 1972. After graduating from Saint-Joseph French High School in 1991, he entered the Cinema and Television department at Marmara University in 1992. After completing his university education, he began working in the advertising industry. He has worked as an advertising director at various agencies since 2006. Between 2010 and 2014, he taught cinematography at the Photography and Video department of Bahçeşehir University. In 2014, he began teaching directing courses at the Istanbul Film Academy. In 2019, he left the Istanbul Film Academy and began producing content on a YouTube channel.
