Illegal betting ads during Montenegro-Turkey match in the spotlight: RTÜK and prosecutor's office take action

Following the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's decision to launch an investigation into Acun Ilıcalı, TV8, and Exxen digital platform officials over allegations of illegal betting advertising and promotion, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has also taken action.

RTÜK Chairman Ebubekir Şahin stated in a post on his social media account, "Following allegations that the broadcaster promoted illegal betting sites on the pitch-side advertising boards during the Montenegro-Turkey match, an investigation was initiated by RTÜK at the conclusion of the match, and the expert report prepared will be added to the agenda of the next Supreme Council meeting."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Turkey faced Montenegro in the UEFA Nations League B Group 4, matchday 6, which was broadcast live on TV8. During the match, advertisements for illegal betting sites were displayed on the advertising boards.

Addressing the issue, which became a trending topic on social media, Acun Ilıcalı stated that the sales of advertising boards for matches played abroad belong to the host country.
