An illegal crossing alarm was raised at the TRNC's border with the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus. In a statement from the TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was reported that a Greek Cypriot firefighter, escorted by the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, made an illegal entry into Çayhan Düzü today.

The investigation revealed that the individual in question was in the area as part of an activity conducted in the Buffer Zone together with the UN Peacekeeping Force. The individual was released after the necessary warnings were issued.

"It is unacceptable for the Peacekeeping Force to allow such activities within the Buffer Zone"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is unacceptable for the Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus to allow such activities within the Buffer Zone without the knowledge and consent of the TRNC authorities, and furthermore, to expand the area of activity to include TRNC territory.

It was reported that the necessary initiatives have been taken with the UNFICYP regarding the incident and that the violation has been protested.

In the Ministry's statement, it was emphasized that it is important for the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus to ensure the necessary coordination with TRNC authorities in its future activities to prevent similar violations from recurring and to avoid tensions.

Furthermore, it was announced to the public that Çayhan Düzü is TRNC territory, that the fire safety of the region is provided by the TRNC Fire Department, and that the determination to protect the country's sovereign rights and borders will be maintained.
