İmamoğlu reacts sharply to arrests: 'This is a scripted film!'

In the 5th wave of operations conducted against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), 18 out of 30 people detained were arrested. Among those arrested were Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, and Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar.

The images of the arrested individuals being lined up under police escort upon their arrival at Silivri Prison have sparked significant public outrage.

12 PEOPLE TRANSFERRED FROM SILIVRI TO DIFFERENT PROVINCES

12 detainees, including İBB Presidential Advisor Ahmet Özer, İBB Deputy Secretary General Buğra Gökce, and former İBB Spor A.Ş. General Manager and Council Member Resul Emrah Şahan, who were being held at Silivri Prison No. 9, have been transferred to İzmir Prison.

Among those transferred is Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık. Çalık and the other 11 individuals will be sent to İzmir. Additionally, 11 people arrested in the latest wave have been set on their way to be transferred to various other prisons.

"ENEMY LAW IS IN EFFECT"

Evaluating the process that began with the dawn raid on March 19, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu criticized the events with harsh words.

In a post on his social media account, İmamoğlu stated, "Do not think of our mayors, political friends, honorable bureaucrats, and fellow travelers as mere prisoners. It is as if a film with a pre-written script is being performed. Methods of 'enemy law' never before seen in the world are being applied."

In a post made from the Presidential Candidate Office account, İmamoğlu said the following:

"My Dear Nation,

I want to express the deep sorrow and anxiety I feel before the Eid al-Adha, and address you by seeing the great damage inflicted upon our country.

Do not think of our mayors, political friends, honorable bureaucrats, and fellow travelers as mere prisoners. It is as if a film with a pre-written script is being performed.

First, dawn raids and detentions, then people kept for 5 days in filthy, airless, hungry, and thirsty conditions, only to be arrested and sent to Silivri...

Methods of 'enemy law' never before seen in the world are being applied. Our friends held in Silivri are being transferred to other cities, and their opportunities to meet with their lawyers and families are being restricted and made difficult.

My Dear Nation,

I am addressing our nation, those who have a conscience, who believe in justice, and who say, 'He who remains silent against injustice is a mute devil'; I am addressing social democrats, nationalist democrats, conservative democrats, Kurdish democrats, socialist democrats, and liberal democrats.

We are now captives as a nation, the will of the nation is captive. The future of our children and youth, our hopes, our family sanctities, our work, our joy of living, and our abundance are captive.

Our determined struggle will, of course, continue hand in hand with our nation!

There is no salvation alone, either all together or none of us!
