İmamoğlu reacts to Ahmet Özer not being released

Presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has reacted sharply to the fact that Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer remains in prison despite a release order.

İmamoğlu stated, "Ahmet Özer and all our mayors who are being held unjustly must be released immediately," adding that legal processes must be initiated rapidly.

Arguing that the case against Ahmet Özer was opened for political reasons, Ekrem İmamoğlu said, "I welcome the release order issued for our Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, even if it is delayed.

However, unfortunately, Ahmet Özer is still in prison despite the release order."

IMM Mayor İmamoğlu expressed that the judicial processes targeting CHP municipalities are not fair and that this situation is being used as a tool for political pressure.

Emphasizing the rule of law, İmamoğlu said, "We will continue to fight together against this unlawful mentality that ignores the will of the nation." He also stated that trials must begin and these processes must be presented to the public in a transparent manner.

The words of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu are as follows:

'I welcome the release order issued for our Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, even if it is delayed.

The testimonies of the witnesses heard in the hearing clearly revealed that this case, like the others, was opened for political reasons rather than legal ones. However, unfortunately, Ahmet Özer is still in prison despite the release order.

He continues to be held in Silivri due to the accusations of an informant who previously led to the arrest of many of our CHP mayors. Moreover, despite months having passed since the investigation began, not even an indictment has been prepared regarding these accusations.

The first step of judicial harassment against CHP municipalities was taken in Esenyurt. Our mayor was arrested, and a trustee was appointed to the municipality. Then came other investigations and arrests. I hope that the release order issued today will be a sign that the government will turn back from the wrong path it has taken. Our expectation is clear and unambiguous: Ahmet Özer and all our mayors who are being held unjustly must be released immediately, indictments must be prepared, trials must begin, and they must be broadcast live on TRT. We will continue to fight together against this unlawful mentality that ignores the will of the nation.'
