İmamoğlu reacts to government over 'Kanal İstanbul' obsession: 'This resource could revitalize the country'

In a post on his social media account, İmamoğlu disclosed the amount of money spent on this project and questioned why the AKP government is so insistent on a project that will also cause great damage to nature.

Ekrem İmamoğlu shared the following:

What is this obsession with Kanal İstanbul, what kind of "love" is this?

How could you be so blinded by this betrayal?

To whom, and what did you promise?

I am sharing just 4 items that come to my mind regarding the earthquake;

The resource you evaporated from the earthquake fund is exactly 42 billion dollars!

The rent you created from public spaces and zoning activity in Istanbul over 15 years between 2004-2019 is exactly 85 billion dollars!

The estimated cost of your "crazy project" Kanal İstanbul, which everyone knows is a betrayal of Istanbul, is exactly 100 billion dollars!

The cost to the national budget of the coup attempt that took place on the morning of March 19 by your order against the will of the nation is exactly 50 billion dollars!

You have burdened the nation and the state with a loss of 277 billion dollars in just the four items I listed above!

This resource would have revitalized the entire country, including Istanbul, made it earthquake-resistant, and brought our entire country to prosperity.

I entrust your blinded ambition and passion first to Almighty Allah and then to our nation.

My dear nation, we must urgently get rid of this crooked order. I trust you.
