Imamoğlu reacts to the detention of Ümit Özdağ
Following the detention of Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) Chairman Ümit Özdağ, a message came from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ was detained in Ankara as part of an investigation into "insulting the President." Following Özdağ's detention, Ekrem İmamoğlu shared the following message:
"It is unacceptable that an investigation has been launched and a swift detention carried out due to a speech made by Victory Party Chairman Mr. Ümit Özdağ. Politics exists for speaking and criticizing, and in democracies, political settling of scores happens at the ballot box. The judiciary cannot be an apparatus of politics."
