İmamoğlu reacts to the appointment of a trustee to TELE1: 'Give up on summary execution'

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into CHP's imprisoned presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Necati Özkan, and journalist Merdan Yanardağ on allegations of espionage.

Within the scope of the investigation, Merdan Yanardağ was detained, and a trustee was appointed to TELE1.

İmamoğlu issued a new statement regarding the espionage investigation through his lawyers.

Reacting sharply to the appointment of a trustee to TELE1 and the detention of journalist Merdan Yanardağ, İmamoğlu included the following statements in his message:

"Give up on summary execution!

Merdan Yanardağ was detained in the pitch-black darkness of the early morning, and by evening, a trustee was hastily appointed to TELE 1. 

Moreover, those who did this had not asked journalist Merdan Yanardağ a single question, nor had they even taken his defense. 

Let us say it clearly. This is a seizure. 

This is heavy censorship on the media, the windpipe of democracy. 

This is intimidation. 

But whatever you do, it is in vain. 

You cannot hide the truth from the eyes of this noble nation.  The truth will overcome every obstacle and will surely triumph in the end. And the partner of that victory will be the 86 million people to whom you deem lawlessness appropriate today.

Merdan Yanardağ sabahın kör karanlığında gözaltına alındı, akşam ise alelacele TELE 1'e kayyum atandı.
Üstelik bunu yapanlar Gazeteci Merdan Yanardağ’a tek bir soru sormamışlar, savunmasını bile almamışlardı.
