İmamoğlu reiterates call for elections in interview: Erdoğan knows
Presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been imprisoned at the Marmara Prison in Silivri since March 2025, reiterated his demand for early elections and delivered striking messages in an interview.
CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is preparing to appear in court on March 9 as part of the IMM case and faces more than 2,000 years in prison, gave an interview to the foreign press regarding his imprisonment.
CHP Presidential Candidate and IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu reiterated his demand for early elections, stating, "Erdoğan knows he will lose the election."
Stating, "We want early elections immediately," İmamoğlu expressed that AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is avoiding elections because he knows he will be defeated in the first one, and said the following:
"The President sees the approaching defeat and is avoiding the election. He will be a candidate and he will lose. The winner will be Turkey."

Emphasizing that the AKP government is in fear of losing the election, İmamoğlu stated that the numerous lawsuits filed against him are a political campaign aimed at preventing his presidential candidacy, and made the following remarks:
"When those in power realized they would lose, they saw the solution in keeping me in prison with baseless allegations and giving orders to the judiciary."
"NO PRESSURE WILL PREVENT ME FROM WORKING FOR THE COUNTRY"
Despite his imprisonment, İmamoğlu, who continues to be the official presidential candidate of the CHP, said he is working hard to support his party's "political journey."
Stating that he spends intense hours with his lawyers for the more than 10 lawsuits and investigations opened against him, reads letters from his supporters, and at the same time makes time for his work regarding the IMM, İmamoğlu stated that his daily work schedule reaches approximately 18 hours.
When asked if he thinks he could be a candidate in a possible election, he expressed his faith in justice and that he would use his legal rights to the fullest, saying:
"No pressure or obstacle will prevent me from working to make this country fairer, freer, and more prosperous."
