İmamoğlu said 'money was sent to AKP municipalities before the election': Documents have emerged

Following the local elections held on March 31, 2024, election-related controversies continue unabated.

İmamoğlu had announced at an event he attended that 45 million liras were sent to AKP-run district municipalities by the Presidency's Strategy and Budget Directorate before the local elections. The bank receipts regarding the transfer of these funds have emerged.

It was observed that the term 'donation' was used in the description section of the transferred funds.

While İBB Mayor İmamoğlu's statements continue to be debated, another major development has occurred regarding the fund transfers. According to a report by Sema Kızılarslan from Karar, the bank receipts for the money sent by the Presidency to AKP-run municipalities have surfaced.

SENDER: STRATEGY AND BUDGET DIRECTORATE

It was seen that 'Presidency Strategy and Budget Directorate' was written on the receipts for the 45 million liras sent to AKP municipalities after the March 31 election.

Furthermore, the fact that the term 'donation' was used in the description section of the funds sent via state banks did not go unnoticed.

While the AKP mayors at the center of the allegations deny the situation, CHP Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Bahçetepe, Tuzla Mayor Bingöl, and Üsküdar Mayor Dedetaş confirmed the source of the funds.

Eren Ali Bingöl stated, "It did not come from the Presidency's Strategy and Budget Directorate, but 45 million TL in funds did come from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

One of the most discussed topics in recent weeks was the issue of municipalities being sent notices to pay their Social Security Institution (SGK) debts.

Many statements were made on the subject by both the President and government officials as well as the opposition, and İmamoğlu had said the following regarding the matter:

“Çekmeköy Municipality is asking for 45 million liras. It would never occur to me to ask for help from the Presidency. We only ask for a signature to build a metro. Why is 45 million liras in non-repayable funds being paid to a municipality that has 100 million liras in insurance debt?”

Additionally, İmamoğlu had stated that while money was sent to AKP-run municipalities, no money was sent to the Silivri Municipality, which was managed by their alliance partner MHP at the time.
