İmamoğlu takes action against pro-government media

The CHP states that the operations launched against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) on March 19, which led to the arrest of many officials including Ekrem İmamoğlu, have lost their credibility in the eyes of the public. Due to the false news and accusations published during this process, İmamoğlu has filed lawsuits against the executives of Sabah and Akşam newspapers, as well as A Haber.

İmamoğlu takes action against pro-government media

The Republican People's Party (CHP) believes that the operations launched against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) on March 19, which resulted in the arrest of İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and many municipal officials, have lost their credibility in the eyes of the public. According to a report by Birgün, polls commissioned by the party from independent research firms show an increase in voter support for CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, and it is understood that this increase is being interpreted as the investigation having "backfired" on the government.

"THERE IS A POLITICAL AGENDA BEHIND THE OPERATION"

CHP sources argue that these operations are an attempt by the government to change the agenda at a time when it has lost public support. While the operations are viewed by the public as a "political coup," the following comments are being made within the CHP regarding the process:

"Those who have nothing left to say to the public have targeted CHP officials with false and baseless accusations. This judicial move, initiated on March 19, does not receive support from the public. The allegations put forward are crumbling day by day. At the end of the process, both İmamoğlu and other İBB officials will be released."

AGENDA: FREEDOM FOR İMAMOĞLU, HEADING TO THE BALLOT BOX

According to information obtained from CHP circles, once the government wing realized that the investigation was not being taken seriously by the public, it began trying to create an image of chaos within the CHP. However, party officials emphasize that their focus is clear:

"Our priority is for Ekrem İmamoğlu to regain his freedom as soon as possible and for an early election to be brought before the nation so that the will of the people can be manifested once again."

A WAVE OF LAWSUITS FROM İMAMOĞLU AGAINST PRO-GOVERNMENT MEDIA

İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has filed defamation lawsuits against the executives of Sabah and Akşam newspapers and A Haber due to the baseless news and accusations published about him. In a report headlined "İmamoğlu hid the vehicles of a criminal organization" regarding luxury vehicles spotted in a parking lot, Sabah Newspaper had claimed that the cars in question were used in money laundering activities.

The same allegations were repeated in Akşam Newspaper and on several television channels.

However, investigations revealed that the luxury cars belonged to MHP member Levent Uysal and his wife Ece Uysal. Following this, İmamoğlu's lawyers filed criminal complaints against A Haber, Akit TV, TGRT, Ülke TV, Kanal 24, Sabah and Akşam newspapers, as well as certain columnists and social media users.

OVER 200 APPLICATIONS

The İBB legal department has made over 200 official applications to both the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), accompanied by information and documents. The CHP argues that these reports should be investigated not only for their defamatory nature but also for the way they have misled the public.
