İmamoğlu thanks European mayors for their support: 'It strengthens the struggle we are waging'

Mayors of cities that are members of Eurocities and B40 have come to Turkey to support CHP's presidential candidate and IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been imprisoned since March 23 as part of an investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). The European mayors visited the IMM building in Saraçhane today. 

The request by the European mayors to visit İmamoğlu at the Marmara Prison in Silivri was rejected by the Ministry of Justice.

The European mayors attended the Beyoğlu rally and issued statements of support for İmamoğlu. 

CHP's presidential candidate and imprisoned IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been in custody since March 23, published a message of thanks from the Presidential Candidate Office account to the European mayors who attended the Beyoğlu rally and issued statements of support for him.

İmamoğlu used the following expressions in his post:

"From Silivri, I greet our brave people who filled the square of the Beyoğlu Municipality, the first municipality established under the name of the 'Sixth District'.

I also extend my sincere thanks to the European Mayors and representatives who supported our cause by attending our rally in Beyoğlu during these difficult times: Barcelona Mayor and Eurocities Vice President Jaume Collboni, Sofia Mayor and B40 Balkan Cities Network President Vassil Terziev, Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karacsony, Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomaševic, Timișoara Mayor Dominic Fritz, Utrecht Mayor and Association of Netherlands Municipalities President Sharon Dijksma, Madrid Deputy Mayor José Francisco Antonaya, Eurocities Secretary General André Sobczak, and Brescia City Council Member Francesco Tomasini.

The solidarity you have shown strengthens the struggle we are waging for the democratic future that our Turkey deserves."
