Imamoğlu's call on 'stray animals': 'We are not at that table'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu answered journalists' questions regarding the agenda following the Istanbul Foundation Qurban Donation Canned Food Distribution.

Responding to a question about the legislative proposal discussions on stray animals in the Parliamentary Commission, İmamoğlu stated, "We are following the processes in Parliament regarding animal rights and sharing the reports we have prepared. Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to accept the development of this process without any contact with any municipality, including the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, while it contains articles that impose an abnormal burden and a very high level of responsibility on municipalities."

"WE ARE NOT AT THE TABLE"

"I am not going into the content. Before the commission, this is the business of those who know the job... It is the business of the municipalities that will implement this work," said İmamoğlu, adding: "We are not at that table. Municipalities are not there, district municipalities are not there, non-governmental organizations are not there... Then you will talk about democracy and freedom. My urgent warning and suggestion to the friends sitting at those tables of the AK Party is this: if they seek a solution like this, they will put all of Turkey's municipalities in a difficult position. This is not about Party A, Party B, or the CHP. Let's sit down, talk, put the social conscience in front of us, put the process management in front of us, put the budget management in front of us, and think holistically."

CALL TO THE GOVERNMENT

Making a call to the government, İmamoğlu said, "If you take every legislative step incorrectly, if you button a shirt incorrectly, it continues that way. This is the essence of the matter; do not do this to our nation, to our institutions... Turn back from this mistake. Let's sit down, talk, there is a method for this."

"TENDERS ARE NOT PROCEEDING VERY TRANSPARENTLY"

When asked for his assessment regarding the Fenerbahçe Kalamış Marina tender, İmamoğlu said, "We are following the process; we do not have clear information at the moment. There is a tender. Things like the tender process and the file are not proceeding very transparently. Rather than who bought it or who didn't, we will examine how this went to tender and what the content is."
