Imamoglu's first reaction to the rulings on Zeydan Karalar and Abdurrahman Tutdere

The latest wave of operations targeting CHP-run municipalities took place on the morning of Saturday, July 5.

Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Adiyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere were detained as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of corruption within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB). On the same day, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Bocek, who was detained in an investigation conducted by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was arrested by the court he was brought before on charges of bribery.

After being brought to Istanbul following their detention, Zeydan Karalar was arrested, while a house arrest decision was issued for Abdurrahman Tutdere.

Ekrem Imamoglu, the CHP's presidential candidate and IBB Mayor, who has been imprisoned in Silivri Prison since March 23, reacted to the rulings regarding Karalar and Tutdere.

Imamoglu, who has been conveying his messages through the X account named "Presidential Candidate Office" following the access ban imposed on his own X account, stated the following in his announcement:

"The government, which targets CHP municipalities with the false testimonies of slanderers, continues its attempts to establish judicial tutelage over politics.

In the latest operations, our mayors Muhittin Bocek and Zeydan Karalar were arrested, while a house arrest decision was issued for our mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere. It is now crystal clear that we are not facing a judicial process, but a coup against the national will.

The government is trying to take revenge with the ambition of losing at the ballot box and by using the judiciary. Because it sees that it will lose in the first election. It is attacking with the indescribable fear and panic of losing.

But let them know that this path they are on is not the right path. There will inevitably be a price to pay for their interventions in the nation's right to vote and its hope.

Let no one have any doubt, we will end this dark and broken order with the support of our nation. We will build a democracy worthy of human dignity in our country all together. We will never bow down.

Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation!"
