İmamoğlu's lawyer exposes scandal in MASAK report with documents: 'Written twice'
Mehmet Pehlivan, the lawyer for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, made statements regarding the MASAK report. Pehlivan stated that the alleged expenditures attributed to the IMM Mayor's son, Mehmet Selim İmamoğlu, do not reflect the truth.
İmamoğlu's lawyer, Mehmet Pehlivan, stated that in the MASAK report, "the same expenditures were written repeatedly, thereby inflating the figures to create a false perception."
While sharing the expenditures along with their supporting documents, Pehlivan said, "This report, both in terms of its content and the way it was presented, is flawed by material errors and carries the intent to influence the judicial process."
Pehlivan stated the following in his announcement:
"Misleading information is being presented to the public in news reports appearing in the media in recent days regarding our client, Mehmet Selim İmamoğlu, which are claimed to be based on a MASAK report. The MASAK report, which is at the center of these allegations, has been carefully examined by us; as a result of this examination, it has been determined that the report in question does not reflect the material truth and contains serious calculation errors.
It is alleged in the MASAK report that the client carried out transfers totaling 637,106 Euros. However, this amount was inflated by recording the same transactions multiple times; a false perception was created through duplicate entries. In reality, the investment made by the client consists solely of overseas transfers totaling 388,663 Euros, all of which were formed from his family's savings.
What is expected from an institution equipped with high technical capacity like MASAK is to leave no room for even the smallest margin of error in such critical documents. In this context, the error made is not reasonable; it is a weakness that must be questioned with institutional(!) seriousness.
These fundamental errors made in a technical report that could lead to such serious consequences are causing not only the client but also the public to be misled. Moreover, it is extremely concerning that these erroneous findings are being leaked to the press and turned into a tool of manipulation aimed at creating political and legal consequences.
The principles of impartiality and technical accuracy, which are the foundation of inter-institutional trust and fair trial, are the minimum standards expected from an important organization like MASAK. However, it is clear that this report, both in terms of its content and the way it was presented, is flawed by material errors and carries the intent to influence the judicial process.
Our side will submit its technical and legal objections regarding this report to the relevant authorities and will resolutely exercise all legal rights against such attempts aimed at damaging the client's reputation."
Pehlivan also attached the transfers that were the subject of the MASAK report along with their documents:
