Imamoglu's son Selim Imamoglu: 'We are here as his family'

Turkey began the day with the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and his colleagues. More than 100 people, including IBB Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, Beylikduzu Mayor Murat Calik, and Sisli Mayor Resul Emrah Sahan, were detained in dawn operations.

A reaction to the process also came from Ekrem Imamoglu's son, Selim Imamoglu. Selim Imamoglu said, "Let us talk about the economy, not injustice; let us talk about science, let us talk about education, and let us talk as a nation about what we can do to become a country that is an example to the world; let us share our concerns."

Sharing a post on his social media account, Selim Imamoglu used the following expressions:

"Today, as we all know, an unlawful practice was carried out with an action that does not suit the Turkish legal system at all, by raiding dozens of homes simultaneously. In this country, everyone who fights a just and clean struggle now lives while calculating what might happen to them in their homes with the same feeling. By interfering with people's honest lives and usurping the lives of every member of their families, they are trying to prevent all goodness.

As a family, we spend almost every day thinking about our country's fundamental problems and the most appropriate solutions for them. Let us talk about the economy, not injustice; let us talk about science, let us talk about education, and let us talk as a nation about what we can do to become a country that is an example to the world; let us share our concerns. Today is not the day to pull each other down. Let us find solutions to poverty. Let us find solutions to the problems of mothers and fathers who worry about how to provide for basic needs so they do not feel ashamed before their children when they go home. Let us bring peace, tranquility, and happiness. Despite a world being dragged into chaos, let us hold each other's hands and create an example of peace for the world.

But above all, in order to create that peaceful environment where we can talk about all of these, we will continue to fight for true JUSTICE and DEMOCRACY. We are here not just as Ekrem Imamoglu, but as his family. These events have now confirmed that the rights of every one of our citizens are under threat. We will surely emerge from these dark days, and everyone, regardless of name or title, will live in a fair environment. This country belongs to all of us. We are all entrusted to one another. Either all together or none of us. THERE IS NO SALVATION ALONE!"
