IMM demolishes another illegal cafe in Üsküdar: 'They had tried to grant zoning permission'

The demolition of illegal cafes along Istanbul's coastlines has been ongoing for a long time.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu announced that another illegal cafe on the Salacak coastline has been demolished.

In a post on his X account, İmamoğlu stated the following:

"Our efforts continue to clear the surroundings of the historic Şemsi Paşa Mosque on the Salacak coastline from encroachments and open them for public use as a square and green space. Following the legal process, our teams carried out the demolition of another illegal cafe this morning."

"THE PREVIOUS MINISTER TRIED TO GRANT ZONING PERMISSION"

Murat Ongun, recalling that the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change had suspended zoning plans on March 16, 2023, stated the following:

"It should be remembered that after the IMM made the demolition decision, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change suspended zoning plans on March 16, 2023, in an attempt to protect the illegal cafes. In other words, the previous Minister tried to grant zoning permission to an illegal structure in such a special location."

NAME MENTIONED AMONG AKP CANDIDATES FOR IMM

The name of the former Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum has long been mentioned for the AKP's IMM candidacy.

In addition to Kurum, AKP IMM Assembly Group Chairman and Esenler Mayor Mehmet Tevfik Göksu is also among those whose names are mentioned.
