Important statement from Okan Tüysüz following the earthquake in Van! Will the tremors continue?

The 4.6 magnitude earthquake recorded in the Tuşba district of Van caused brief concern. Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz explained that the tremor occurred on a "compressional fault."

Tüysüz shared his initial assessments regarding the earthquake on his social media account, including maps of the areas where it was felt at an intensity of IV-V.

"IT COULD REACH A MAGNITUDE OF 4"

Speaking to NTV, Prof. Dr. Tüysüz stated that a similar compression has been felt in the same region following the earthquakes that were effective in 2011 and 2023.

Noting that aftershocks could reach a magnitude of 4, Tüysüz stated, "This fault does not have the capacity to generate a larger earthquake. I do not expect a major earthquake for the time being."
