Important warning from experts regarding the 'yellow serum' debate

The health risks associated with drug mixtures known colloquially as "yellow serum" remain a prominent issue.

Most recently, 24-year-old Selinay Yüksekbaş, who fell ill after receiving a yellow serum administered by a pharmacy assistant in Adana, passed away on January 18.

Just five days before this incident, on January 13, 44-year-old Mehmet Gündoğan, who had visited a clinic in Afyonkarahisar with complaints of a flu-like infection, also fell ill near the end of his IV drip and lost his life. These consecutive deaths have heightened concerns regarding the uncontrolled use of IV drips.

'THERE IS A RISK OF ALLERGY'

According to a report in Cumhuriyet, Istanbul Medical Chamber President Prof. Dr. Osman Küçükosmanoğlu stated that patients should avoid unconscious use of medication and vitamin supplements, adding, "Any procedure to be performed in healthcare facilities must be decided upon after the necessary examinations are conducted between the patient and the doctor."

Emrah Kırımlı, President of the Turkish Medical Association's Family Medicine Branch, emphasized that the yellow serum has no strong benefit other than its short-term pain and fever-reducing effects, stating, "There is a similar demand not only for fluid supplements but also for antibiotics and painkillers. Among millions of applications, there are people who carry a serious risk of allergy to these drugs, and unfortunately, when this occurs, it can lead to fatal consequences."
