Very important warnings from Naci Görür regarding earthquakes in Western Anatolia

The Sındırgı district of Balıkesir was shaken by a 4.9-magnitude earthquake yesterday, and the tremors continued throughout the night. According to AFAD data, the first earthquake occurred at 15:35 at a depth of 11 kilometers. The earthquake was felt in surrounding provinces such as İzmir, Bursa, and Istanbul, in addition to Balıkesir, causing panic in the region. At 23:23, another aftershock with a magnitude of 4.3 was recorded, and the depth of this tremor was determined to be 4.91 kilometers.

CRITICAL STATEMENTS FROM PROF. DR. NACİ GÖRÜR

Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür drew attention to the geological structure of Western Anatolia in a statement he made on social media. Görür stated, "Western Anatolia, where Sındırgı is located, is under north-south tension due to the westward escape. This situation leads to the thinning of the crust and the rising of magma. What happened in Sındırgı today is a result of this. One must be careful; there is no solution other than making the region into earthquake-resistant cities," he said.

AFTERSHOCKS CONTINUE

According to data from AFAD and the Kandilli Observatory, small-scale aftershocks are continuing in the region. Authorities have warned citizens to stay away from damaged buildings and to follow official statements. Experts state that Western Anatolia is located on active fault lines and that earthquakes of similar magnitude may occur in the region.
