Constitutional Court move from imprisoned journalist Alican Uludağ

Journalist Alican Uludağ, who was arrested on charges of "insulting the President" and has been in prison since February 20, has filed an individual application with the Constitutional Court.

According to the report by DW Türkçe, where Uludağ works, the application argues that the arrest process violated multiple fundamental rights in a "chain" manner.

The application states that the right to personal liberty and security was violated and also claims that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which conducted the investigation, lacked jurisdiction.

The application, which asserts that the legal conditions for arrest were not met, that the practice was contrary to the principle of proportionality, and that it violated freedom of the press, requests Uludağ's release.

DETENTION AND ARREST PROCESS

DW Türkçe reporter Uludağ was detained at his home in Ankara on February 19 as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and was taken to Istanbul.

Uludağ faced accusations of "publicly insulting the President" and "publicly disseminating misleading information" based on his social media posts.

After giving his statement to the prosecutor's office, Uludağ was arrested on the charge of "insulting the President."

HIS DEFENSE IN COURT

In his defense in court, journalist Alican Uludağ stated, "I was brought here leaving behind the tears of my children. If I am expected to pay a price for journalism, I am ready. The prosecutor knows very well that none of the posts in their allegations constitute a crime and that they are entirely criticism. To date, no complaints have been filed regarding these posts by either the President or his lawyers."
