Imprisoned journalist Alican Uludağ sends message from prison: I did not fear or submit

In a message sent to his colleagues from Metris Prison, Uludağ stated, "In this country, the places deemed fit for journalists are either the grave or prison. I did not betray journalism, I did not sell my pen, I did not fear or submit. I have no complaints about paying the price."

The message, shared via a social media account opened by Alican Uludağ's friends, included the following statements:

"Dear colleagues, first I must write this: I am doing very well. I have even started journalistic activities here :) Even though I was kept away from you at the courthouse, I felt your support in my heart. I will never forget your solidarity as long as I live. Thank you all very much.

Actually, my story is similar to those of the past. In this country, the places deemed fit for journalists are either the grave or prison. I have no complaints. I did not betray journalism, I did not sell my pen, I did not fear or submit. I have no complaints about paying the price.

"WE ARE HAPPY BECAUSE WE DID NOT LIE TO THIS PUBLIC"

Their goal was to imprison my thoughts, and by arresting me, they succeeded. Being arrested for posting a tweet is the tragic reality of this country.

The struggle for truth in Turkey is a relay race. I am inside now, but I am sure that you will continue this struggle.

We are happy because we did not lie to this public. We were not the voice of the powerful, but the voice of the people who could not make themselves heard. We did not commit a crime; we only practiced journalism. Sending you all my love and greetings."
