Imrali delegation makes statement in Kurdish first... Reaction from Babüroğlu: 'It is a challenge to the Constitution'

The DEM Party Imrali delegation, which met with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, is sharing Öcalan's 'laying down arms' statement. Following the reading of the statement conveyed by the PKK leader in Kurdish first, International Relations and Strategy expert Dr. Naim Babüroğlu offered criticism, reminding that what was done amounts to opposing the Constitution.

Speaking to SZC TV, Babüroğlu commented on the delegation's decision to read the letter from terrorist leader Öcalan in Kurdish first with the words, ''It is a challenge to the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey.''

ÖCALAN'S STATEMENT

Terrorist leader Öcalan, who called on the PKK to lay down its arms, called for a new resolution process. Noting that 'democratic methods' should be adopted instead of terrorism, Öcalan stated that the PKK should dissolve itself.

The statements made by terrorist leader Öcalan are as follows:

''The PKK was born on a foundation created by the 20th century, the most intense century of violence in history, two world wars, real-socialism, the global Cold War environment, the denial of the Kurdish reality, and bans on freedoms, especially freedom of expression.

As a theory, program, strategy, and tactic, it remained under the heavy influence of the real-socialist system reality of the century. The collapse of real-socialism in the 1990s due to internal reasons, the resolution of identity denial in the country, and the developments in freedom of expression led to a lack of meaning and excessive repetition for the PKK. Therefore, it has completed its lifespan like its counterparts and made its dissolution necessary.

Kurdish-Turkish relations; throughout a history spanning over 1000 years, Turks and Kurds have always seen it as a necessity to remain in an alliance where the aspect of voluntariness is dominant in order to maintain their existence and survive against hegemonic powers. The last 200 years of capitalist modernity have made breaking this alliance its primary goal. The affected powers, along with their class foundations, have made serving this their primary belief. This process accelerated with the monolithic interpretations of the Republic. Today, it is the primary duty to reorganize the historical relationship, which has become very fragile, in a spirit of brotherhood without ignoring beliefs.

The need for a democratic society is inevitable. The PKK, which is the longest and most comprehensive rebellion and violence movement in the history of the Republic, found power and a base because democratic political channels were closed. The necessary result of its extreme nationalist drift; separate nation-state, federation, administrative autonomy, and culturalist solutions cannot provide an answer to historical social sociology.

Respect for identities, their ability to express themselves freely, to organize in a democratic sense, and the socio-economic and political structures that every segment adopts for themselves are only possible with the existence of a democratic society and political sphere.

The second century of the Republic will only be able to have a permanent and brotherly continuity when it is crowned with democracy. There is no non-democratic path for system searches and realizations. There cannot be. Democratic consensus is the fundamental method.

The language of the era of peace and democratic society must also be developed in accordance with reality. In this climate created by the call made by Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, the will put forward by the President, and the positive approaches of other political parties towards the aforementioned call, I am making a call to lay down arms and I am assuming the historical responsibility of this call.

As every contemporary society and party whose existence has not been forcibly ended would do voluntarily, convene your congress and make a decision for integration with the state and society; all groups must lay down their arms and the PKK must dissolve itself. I convey my greetings to all segments who believe in living together and heed my call.''
