In IPA's 'Barometer Report': The event that left its mark on Turkey's agenda is clear

In the Istanbul Barometer March 2025 Report, prepared by interviewing 762 Istanbul residents over the phone between April 1-7, 2025, the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, satisfaction with IMM services, and economic impacts emerged as the prominent headlines.

In the Barometer Report published by the Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA), the most important event that left its mark on Turkey's agenda was stated to be the arrest of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Among the projects initiated during the term of İmamoğlu, the CHP's presidential candidate, those most appreciated were the City Restaurant (Kent Lokantası) with 80.8 percent, IMM Student Dormitories with 79.7 percent, and IMM Libraries with 79.6 percent.

While the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu ranked first on the domestic agenda with 52.9 percent, economic problems ranked second with 24.5 percent, and the Ramadan Feast (Eid al-Fitr) ranked third with 5.3 percent.

PROMINENT AGENDA: THE ARREST OF İMAMOĞLU

The most important event that left its mark on Turkey's agenda in March was stated to be the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu by 72.6 percent of the participants.

The hotel fire in Uludağ ranked second with 11 percent, and the Ramadan Feast ranked third with 4.3 percent. Specifically for Istanbul, 89.4 percent of the participants considered the arrest of İmamoğlu along with Şişli Mayor Emrah Şahan and Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık as the city's most important agenda item.

Another prominent headline in the Barometer Report was the satisfaction rates regarding IMM services. Among the projects initiated during the term of Ekrem İmamoğlu:

* City Restaurant: 80.8 percent

* IMM Student Dormitories: 79.7 percent

* IMM Libraries: Received appreciation at a rate of 79.6 percent.

While 63.1 percent of the participants found the projects implemented during İmamoğlu's term successful, 76.8 percent wanted these projects to be continued.

POLITICS AND ECONOMY AS DOMESTIC AGENDA

While the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu ranked first on the domestic agenda in March with 52.9 percent, economic problems ranked second with 24.5 percent, and the Ramadan Feast ranked third with 5.3 percent. These results show that in addition to political developments, economic hardships also hold an important place in the daily lives of Istanbul residents.
