Indictment accepted for parents of attacker in Kahramanmaraş school shooting

The investigation into the armed attack carried out on April 15 at Ayser Çalık Middle School in Kahramanmaraş has been completed. The indictment prepared regarding the incident, in which 1 teacher and 9 students lost their lives and 15 students were injured, has been accepted by the Kahramanmaraş 3rd High Criminal Court.

In the indictment, 10 life sentences were requested for the detained father, Uğur Mersinli, who is stated to be the owner of the weapons used in the attack, on charges of "murder with possible intent." A prison sentence of up to 30 years was also requested for Mersinli for the crime of "injury with possible intent."

'UP TO 22.5 YEARS IN PRISON'

The attacker's detained mother, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, was charged with "causing the death and injury of more than one person through conscious negligence." The indictment requests that mother Mersinli be sentenced to up to 22.5 years in prison.

Teacher Ayla Kara and students Adnan Göktürk Yeşil, Almina Ağaoğlu, Bayram Nabi Şişik, Belinay Nur Poyraz, Furkan Sancak Balal, Kerem Erdem Güngör, Yusuf Tarık Gül, Zeynep Kılıç, and Şuranur Sevgi Kazancı lost their lives in the attack.

The trial is expected to begin in the coming days. It was stated that the detained defendants, Uğur Mersinli and Peyman Pınar Mersinli, will appear before a judge during the trial process.
