Indictment prepared against Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün: 68 to 183 years in prison...

The indictment against Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, who was arrested on June 3, 2025, as part of investigations into CHP-run municipalities, has been prepared after 11 months.

The indictment has been sent to the Istanbul 27th High Criminal Court.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office reported that the file contains charges related to 14 separate acts against a total of 31 suspects, including Akgün.

The indictment requests that Akgün be punished for "establishing and managing a criminal organization for profit," 11 counts of "receiving bribes," 2 counts of "extortion by coercion," and "laundering assets derived from crime."

68 TO 183 YEARS IN PRISON

While a prison sentence ranging from 68 to 183 years is being sought for Akgün, the confiscation of 13 properties allegedly acquired through crime has also been requested.

Furthermore, the forfeiture of 13 properties allegedly obtained from the crime was requested.

INDICTMENT HAD NOT BEEN PREPARED FOR 11 MONTHS

The fact that the indictment against Akgün, who was arrested on June 3, 2025, as part of investigations into CHP-run municipalities, was prepared after approximately 11 months has drawn attention.

In a previous statement, Akgün had reacted to the long delay in the preparation of the indictment, saying, "I am writing these lines in Silivri, between four walls, from inside a cell. As a mayor who has served this country for over half a century, I have been forced to explain myself today. I have been deprived of my freedom for almost 11 months, and I still do not know what I am being accused of. There is no indictment."
