Indictment prepared in investigation involving Tanju Özcan: Threat and blackmail probe

Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan filed a complaint last February, alleging that Mehmet Eren Akgüney was blackmailing him.

Mehmet Eren Akgüney was taken into custody on February 28, and on the same day, Tanju Özcan was also detained as part of an investigation into 'extortion by duress.' Akgüney was subsequently arrested.

Özcan was also arrested as part of the 'extortion by duress' investigation and sent to Sincan Prison in Ankara, while being suspended from his duties as the Mayor of Bolu.

The indictment for the 'threat and blackmail' investigation, in which Tanju Özcan is involved as both a complainant and a suspect, has been completed.

According to the indictment, Tanju Özcan sent sexually explicit messages to Öznur Ç., an employee at the Bolu Municipality, and these messages were obtained by the woman's ex-boyfriend, Mehmet Eren Akgüney.

The indictment states that Mehmet Eren Akgüney demanded 20 million TL, a car, and a car wash facility from Özcan.

The indictment further notes that Akgüney threatened to distribute the messages to the media if his demands were not met.

E.B. and H.E.S. were also included in the investigation on allegations of acting as intermediaries in the threat and blackmail scheme.

HE BECAME A SUSPECT IN THE CASE WHERE HE WAS THE VICTIM

According to the indictment, Tanju Özcan also became a suspect based on the statements provided by Öznur Ç.

The indictment includes Öznur Ç.'s statement to the prosecutor's office, in which she alleged that Tanju Özcan played a voice recording of a tip-off made to the municipal call center in his office and said, "What would happen if Eren heard this voice recording? I will protect you, I like you, you will see me." The prosecutor's office evaluated these words by Özcan as 'blackmail.'

In the statements included in the indictment, Tanju Özcan claimed he was subjected to threats and blackmail and filed a complaint against Akgüney, E.B., and H.E.S., while denying the allegations of blackmailing Öznur Ç. and the claims of having a relationship with her. Akgüney, E.B., and H.E.S. also denied all charges in their statements.

UP TO 3 YEARS IN PRISON SOUGHT FOR TANJU ÖZCAN

The indictment requests up to 3 years in prison for Tanju Özcan, who is in the position of both complainant and suspect, on charges of 'blackmail' due to his actions toward Öznur Ç.

For the suspect Mehmet Eren Akgüney, a prison sentence of up to 13 years was requested on charges of 'blackmail' for his actions toward Tanju Özcan, and 'deprivation of liberty' and 'threat' for his actions toward Öznur Ç.

For E.B. and H.E.S., who were alleged to have acted as intermediaries in the blackmail negotiation, a prison sentence of up to 3 years each was requested, stating that they participated directly as 'joint perpetrators.' The prepared indictment has been submitted to the Bolu 2nd Criminal Court of Peace.
