Individual who assaulted school principal and staff member released

The incident occurred at the Başöğretmen İmam Hatip Middle School in Çorum. According to the information obtained, school principal Hacı Ömer Atılgan and school staff member Mehmet Öztürk, who had sent a student named Suad Daed S. to the hospital by ambulance after the student fell ill at school, were assaulted with a chain by the student's parents.

The suspect, Saeed Daeh H., who fled after committing the act, was apprehended by the Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch teams at the residence where he was hiding. The suspect was released by the court after his procedures at the police station.

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

The Çorum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a statement regarding the matter.

The statement included the following:

"Regarding the intentional injury incident that took place on June 5, 2024, at the Başöğretmen İmam Hatip Middle School in our province, it has been deemed necessary to issue a press release to inform the public accurately and regarding the course of the preparatory investigation, as incomplete and misleading news has been shared in some media outlets and social media platforms. A preparatory investigation was immediately initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the apprehension of the foreign national D.H.H., who committed the act of intentional injury against H.Ö.A., who serves as the school principal at Hacı Ömer Başöğretmen Anatolian İmam Hatip Middle School, and M.Ö., who serves as a staff member, as well as another foreign national whose identity has not yet been determined. All evidence has been collected, a travel ban has been imposed on the suspects, investigation procedures are continuing, and efforts to apprehend the suspect or suspects are ongoing. On June 9, 2024, a foreign national named M.S.D.D. was apprehended on the grounds that he was involved in the incident, but he was released after identification procedures determined that he had no connection to the incident. Due to the sensitivity of the matter, it is respectfully announced to the public that news other than the statements to be made by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office should not be relied upon, and that all investigation procedures are being carried out immediately in accordance with legal requirements."
