Instagram's statement on Turkey: We will continue to take action

Access to the social media platform Instagram in Turkey was blocked by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) on August 2, though no official reason was provided at the time.

However, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun had criticized Instagram for blocking condolence messages following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

In subsequent statements made by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the access restriction was attributed to "catalog crimes."

As Instagram was restored on Saturday evening, Uraloğlu said in a statement that the access ban was lifted "as a result of our negotiations with Instagram officials, upon their promise to meet our demands, particularly within the framework of catalog crimes, and to work together on the censorship imposed on users."

In a written statement to the British news agency Reuters regarding the matter, a Meta spokesperson expressed satisfaction that Instagram had been restored in Turkey, stating, "We are in dialogue with the authorities and will continue to take action against content and accounts that violate our policies."

The spokesperson noted that this includes the removal of content that violates the company's Dangerous Organizations and Individuals Policy and the application of exceptions for newsworthy content when necessary.
