Following the claim by Osman Gökçek, son of former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek, that CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır told him, "Ask your father not to post tweets about me, and I won't speak about your father from the podium," Başarır stated, "I met him once behind the podium; he only said to me, 'Don't say these things to me about my father, I am not obligated to pay for my father's sins.'"
